Judging Dancing in Disney Films

If you've started taking dance lessons, you might notice yourself noticing dancing more. And unfortunately, I have this nasty habit of reading too much into how dance gets portrayed in films. So, naturally, I started deciding which Disney characters I would call back if they were entered in a dance competition.
Alright, ladies and gents - let's see how your favorite Disney characters stack up on their dancing!
What are you doing? Get out of her face.
Girl, turn your head. That's better.
Wait, are you just checking and changing directions? Would not recall.
Well, they're having fun, but I'm worried she's about to have a shoulder pop out of place. Would not recall.
Ok, so this might be her first time in heels.
Huh. He seems to know what's up in smooth.
Oh, she's a rhythm dancer. Got it. Eh, call them back in American.
Girl, I don't care how good your hair looks. If your partner is scared of it, put it up.
That's more like it. The gown is definitely a step-up.
But you can at least TRY to smile. Would recall.
Oh, this couple's team clearly has a costume closet.
Aw...this must be his first comp!
Eh, good movement, decent posture. He could stand to have his head back a bit.
Ok, dude. Music's stopped. Get off the floor. Recalled, though.
Nice costume, feet turned out.
She's flirting with the audience, not bad.
Ok, slow down girl. He already marked you
What is this I don't even
Hey, decent jive kicks. Gonna burn a hole in his pants, but I'll call him back.
Oh, look, another Latin couple that doesn't know what to do with their arms.
Explosions? Not bad. Call them back for smooth.
And music please, DJ and WAIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING
I have this strange feeling that one of them forgot the choreography.
Would not recall.
Those are impressive, but not jive kicks.
Does this whole team use the same choreography? Honestly!
Well, here's a good-looking couple.
YOU ARE FRAMED UP ON THE WRONG SIDE IDIOT
How I imagine most of us look the first time we learn the importance of floorcraft
THE SONG IS OVER BOW YOU LOSERS
Would not recall.
Well, he's certainly having a good time.
When your partner gets too far from you, just keep spinning I guess.
Oh, I saw this girl warming up earlier.
Wait, that was a decent prep step.
Nice costuming, they're on-time...
Nice reverse turns...
Great natural turns!
And they even dance decent smooth!
RECALL IN SMOOTH AND STANDARD HANDS DOWN!

  1. If you had not rated the Sleeping Beauty dance scenes as the best, it would've been a huge thumbs down. So, props.

  3. Come to think of it, Disney movies really do not portray ballroom dance very well. At least it looks good, even if it doesn't really go that way. I've only been noticing this since I started taking ballroom dance lessons too. That is because I have been learning the real steps that they should be making during these lessons.

  4. People who made star wars rebel spent months planning the stories for their movies, storyboarding, changing things, making character motivation make sense. If you ever watch the DVD extras of Disney films you'll see them talk about how essential getting the story right is for them.
